There are many sayings around the concept that the kitchen is the heart of the home. Given most modern home designs are very open plan, that trend continues, and there’s quite a lot of research to suggest that whether or not the woman likes the kitchen is a big deciding factor in whether a couple buy a home.
All of which suggests that making sure your kitchen looks modern and welcoming is definitely a good strategy if you want to add value to your home. The good news is that for many kitchens, it’s possible to do some quick and easy renovations which add value without breaking the bank.
Cabinetry
The cabinets make up a huge part of the visual impact of a kitchen, so this is definitely an area worth spending some money on. But don’t immediately grab a crow bar to start removing the existing cabinets. First, check out the door handles. It’s mind-boggling how much difference it can make to simply update the door hardware to something modern.
If that’s not enough, then paint the existing doors, or at most, replace all the doors. Of course if the cupboards are damaged or rotted on the inside, then you might still have to wield that crow bar. The same applies to the bench tops – can you resurface or replace them, without needing to replace all the cabinets?
Painted Surfaces
Grab yourself a big bucket of sugar soap and get cracking. You might be astonished to find just how good your kitchen looks once years of accumulated grime is removed.
If that’s not enough, or the colour scheme is just too dated, then a new coat of paint can make a huge difference in a kitchen without a huge outlay of anything other than time.
