Last time we looked at the big items in your kitchen, and there’s a reason for that. When a prospective buyer walks in, it’s natural to get an overall impression of a room before focusing in on the details. So big spaces like walls and cabinets are very important in a kitchen.

But there are more things you can do to give your kitchen a new lease of life at minimal cost.

Windows

If you’re selling, it almost goes without saying that your windows should be crystal clear and sparkling!

But the window treatments matter too. Tired, dingy, obviously outdated curtains or blinds? Replace them! In many cases the windows are quite large, so giving them better coverings can make a big difference to the initial overall impression of the room.

Splashback

Depending on the design of your kitchen, splashbacks behind the sink or benches are areas that can be quite large, so need to look good. It’s also an opportunity to inject some colour or style into the room without redoing bigger features such as the walls and cabinets, if they’re already in good condition.

Glass splashbacks were all the rage for a while, but nowadays there are lots of excellent acrylic versions which are about half the cost. There’s also lots of colours and even patterns available. Word of warning though – acrylic splashbacks can’t be used behind a stove. Paint or tiles can also be used to brighten up your splashback space.
